Banded Brigade Outdoors is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization which provides morale-boosting events for American military members, injured Veterans and their families. BBO honors those who served by organizing outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, and target shooting events. BBO provides all food and lodging for these events to participating military personnel and their families.
What we do:
We provide newly injured service members, and severely disabled veterans, active duty veterans and their families the opportunities and skills to return to as active and healthy a lifestyle as possible. We have found that the sooner a person returns to an active lifestyle the healthier they stay, both mentally and physically. By giving service members a break from their medical routine, and engaging them in activities they enjoy, we can help them avoid or reduce depression, and at the same time help them learn to adapt and adjust to living in the “real world” with their disabilities. By partnering them with other service members who have lived with the same type of injury, they can see that they can still have a full, productive life after a devastating injury. There are also some subjects that they are uncomfortable discussing with their medical staff, which they have an opportunity to discuss with others who have been in the same situation.
We provide all of our outings at no cost to the service member, and provide all equipment, meals, ammunition, etc., including any adaptive equipment or modifications needed. We have the adaptive equipment and the experience to handle a wide range of disabilities, including: Paraplegia, Quadriplegia, amputations (including multiple amputations), loss of vision (including total blindness), and Traumatic Brain injury. We have not yet found a disability we can’t overcome.
Our program includes all necessary preparations for an outing, including equipment familiarization, range training for firearms and archery, hunter safety education courses, and firearm and equipment modification.
We also feel that family involvement plays a large role in the recovery process, and include immediate family members on outings whenever possible. By working with the family on outings, we can also educate them on ways to handle their family member’s disability, and introduce them to other families with a similar situation.
Who we are:
Our Board of Directors is a group of military veterans, business owners, and professional athletes, who believe in giving our veterans every chance at a full and productive life. We feel that working with these men and women in the great outdoors is one of the most motivational tools we can use to help them return to a normal life. We do not have any paid positions and all of our coordinators and guides are volunteers.
We support our program solely through donations and fundraisers and all of the hunts are donated by ranchers and landowners. We are always in need of hunt donations, ammunition, and food and lodging for outings.
